October 2013 – What Does The Fox Say?

Dear Teacher,

The Tune Into English Roadshow is now almost ready and will be beginning its tour very soon – I would be delighted to visit your school and look forward to meeting you and your students again this year. There is a 45-second video of the show on www.tuneintoenglish.com, as well as a link to a video of the Primary show.

Two of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of the website are featured in the new Roadshow. The first is Katy Perry’s current hit, which your students will certainly be familiar with – the worksheet for Roar, written by regular contributor Mena Bianco, looks at phonetics.

Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis have became the latest viral video sensation in September, with over 70 million views on youtube in just four weeks for their infectious The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?). With lyrics describing animal sounds, the song and worksheet (this month’s second addition to the site) are a lot of fun.

The third worksheet is Robbie Williams Different, which features an opposites activity. This was written by Marilena Adamo, based in Pordenone, who also runs the excellent blog Sing Along With It! Improving your English with the help of up-to-date hits.

Thank you to those teachers who have submitted worksheets, I look forward to receiving your future contributions.

You can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts on the Speak Up site – updated weekly, there is a link on the Tune Home page too.
The Karaoke page of Tune Into English now features over 8,700 songs.

Tune Into English also works with schools in the UK and Ireland to promote study tours and teacher refresher courses there. Further details are here – note that these can be funded through the Comenius/Grundtvig scheme.

Finally, two segnalazioni:

–          The Disabled Access Friendly campaign, ELT Teacher 2 Writer and Burlington Books invite you to use your worksheet writing skills to inform students about issues affecting people with mobility disability. Full details here.

–          Liam Ó Maonlaí (whose version of Cathain features in Tune Into Ireland, as well as an early version of the Roadshow) will be performing in Belluno on the 5th October, with all proceeds benefiting Nepal.

I look forward to meeting you and your students in the coming months.

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
