June 2011 – Something In The Water

Share

Dear Teacher,

As Italy prepares for its impending referendum on the privatization of water services this month’s first addition to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com is Brooke Fraser’s Something In The Water. This was submitted by Viviana Pettineo of Reggio Emilia and features a gap fill and error correction.

The 25th of this month marks the second anniversary of Michael Jackson’s untimely death – the second addition, contributed by Carrie Elise Rodella from Capaccio (SA), focuses on the first conditional as used in Jackson’s first posthumous single Hold My Hand, featuring Akon.

The third new worksheet is an accompaniment to my presentation on RAI Radio 3’s Il Cantiere earlier this year. Mena Bianco of Naples has prepared a Present and Past Simple activity based on Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles. You can listen to the podcast here.

On my recent trip to Spain (where I presented an upper-intermediate version of the Roadshow at the Universidad di Huelva) I met the director of Agencia Best,  who specialise in organising summer courses in the UK. There are a limited number of places left on their English and Music, Dance or Theatre course in Manchester from 13-27 July, suitable for 12-18 year olds. You can read full details (in Spanish) here – contact info@agenciabest.com for full details, including special last-minute deals.

Teachers at the Scuola Superiore di I° Grado may be interested in Up To You!, ELI’s holiday book, consolidating and revising vocabulary and structures presented during the year. Written by Kavanagh and Morris, you can read more about this here or by following the link on www.tuneintoenglish.com.

The Tune Into English Roadshow had its final performance in Vicenza on 24th May. Thank you to all those who have hosted the show, and to those who have sent in comments. A very special thank you to the students of the Scuola Primaria San Giustino (PG) for the wonderful drawings they sent me following the Tune Into English Roadshow for Kids at their school in April. You can see these here, or on the Comments or the Primary Roadshow page.
You can see a large selection of videos and photographs from over five years of the Roadshow on facebook – there is a link on the home page of the Tune Into English website.

The Karaoke page of Tune Into English features over 7,400 songs, including the UK Top 10 Charts, updated weekly for the Speak Up site. Why not treat your students with a sing along in the final days before the end of term?

Finally, with the warm weather coming, what better time to add the Tune Into English T-shirt to your wardrobe? Made of high quality material and featuring the Tune logo, this is available here.

Good luck with the last few lessons, the summer break is not far away…

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
