Dear Teacher,
Many of you will be aware that radio was my first love, so I am delighted to announce that I will be returning to the airwaves for a one-off presentation this month. Be sure to tune into Il Cantiere on RAI Radio 3 at 7 p.m. on February 19th, when I will explain the meaning of five popular songs about the radio. You can read full details here.
Love is in the air this month – with Valentine’s Day coming up two of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com are of a romantic nature.
The first, submitted by Mena Bianco of Naples, is Stevie Wonder’s huge hit I Just Called To Say I Love You. This worksheet looks at festivities and phonetics.
The second addition comes from Roy Boardman (also Naples). His wonderful worksheet for Rod Stewart’s For The First Time (also performed by Kenny Loggins) matches monologues and song lyrics, as well as preparing a storyboard.
This month’s final new worksheet is (absurdly) also topical. Many of you will be aware of the inspiration behind Roxanne by The Police – this was sent in by Claudia Cantaluppi from Como. Those who miss the reference might enjoy this video.
Thank you to all teachers who have submitted worksheets – I look forward to receiving your contributions in the future.
New Team Up in English, the ideal course for the Scuola Secondaria di I° Grado, published by ELI, is now available – click here for more details. I will be presenting this in Lecce on February 9th during the talk Using Music To Enhance Language Teaching – full details are here, and all are welcome!
The Tune Into English Roadshow is continuing its tour, thank you to all those who have hosted the show, and to those who have sent in comments. You can see a large selection of videos and photographs from over four years of the Roadshow on facebook – there is a link on the home page of the Tune Into English website.
The Karaoke page of Tune Into English features over 7,300 songs. Don’t forget that you can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts on the Speak Up site – updated weekly; there is a link on the Tune Home page too.
Latest news: I have just received a box of Tune Into English badges – these will be distributed free with all orders of the Tune Into English t-shirt.
Finally, good news for fans of Eminem – he is widely considered to be a literary genius! Click below to enlarge the article published in this morning’s La Repubblica.
A very Happy St. Valentine’s Day!
Best wishes,
Fergal Kavanagh
