October 2007 - Tune Into Hallowe'en
Dear Teacher,

I hope you have settled in well to the new academic year. It is almost Hallowe’en, and Tune Into English has added the worksheet for Michael Jackson’s Thriller to the new look Downloadable Worksheets page of the Teachers’ Area of the website.

This page now features the video to accompany every worksheet online. Apart from giving you the chance to preview the song, you can also exploit the song in your language laboratory – this also solves the problem of not having a copy of the CD. Thriller has a particularly frightening video (and unsuitable for younger viewers), 14 minutes long and made an incredible 24 years ago. It was directed by John Landis and was the most expensive video ever made at the time - it is the ideal activity for your classes on the 31st October!

Tune Into English’s collaboration with Speak Up continues, with new feature The Song explaining the story of a well-known pop song. The October issue, on sale now, looks at Supertramp’s Breakfast In America, sampled for this summer’s tormentone Cupid’s Chokehold by Gym Class Heroes. You can read about it by following the link on the home page of
www.tuneintoenglish.com.

Remember, the Tune Into English Roadshow is currently on tour, and would be delighted to come to your school.

Happy Hallowe’en!

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
