May 2009 - It's nearly over!
Dear Teacher,
The countdown is on to the end of term, and the Tune Into English Roadshow is winding down its 2008-2009 tour – thank you to all of you who have hosted the Roadshow this academic year, and indeed to those I will see this month. I look forward to meeting you all again next year.
A very special “thank you” goes to the students of the Istituto Comprensivo "Teresa Confalonieri" in Naples for the wonderful drawings of the show they sent - you can see these by following the link on the Comments page.
Appropriately, as the city hosts its annual Maggio dei Monumenti celebration, this month’s three additions to the Downloadable Worksheets page of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com have all been contributed by teachers from the Naples area.
The worksheet for the tormentone Beggin’ by Madcon was submitted by Maria Persico (Portici), David Bowie’s Space Oddity was submitted by Laura Casolero from Grumo Nevano, and Mena Bianco of Giugliano provided the excellent word formation activity to accompany The Logical Song by Supertramp.
Tune Into English is currently working on a new look – you can see a preview of what is to come in the May edition of Speak Up. The site will be restyled over the summer months, so if you have any suggestions as to how the site can be improved, we would love to hear from you.
The Karaoke page of the website continues to grow, with over 1,600 songs, including all those mentioned in this newsletter. This is an ideal resource for the classroom, particularly as the year draws to a close. Please note that youtube often removes links, so please let us know if any of the videos are offline.
Finally, although official figures are not yet available, it seems that Team Up in English, 2008’s most successful new Italian Scuola Superiore di Primo Grado course, published by ELI, has surpassed last year’s figures. Thank you to all of those who have chosen to adopt this title, I hope it will make your teaching easier and more enjoyable.
