April 2008 - Three Is A Magic Number
Dear Teacher,
I hope you had a relaxing Easter and that you have settled into this
year’s final term.
This month sees three additions to the Downloadable Worksheets page of www.tuneintoenglish.com. The first was inspired by Italy’s current problem of waste disposal – the chorus of Jack Johnson’s The 3 R’s (The Magic Number) encourages us to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. The second and third are old favourites - thanks to Caterina Ziliani from Milan who submitted Every Breath You Take by The Police and Laura Casolero from Grumo Nevano (NA) for The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.
You can read an analysis of the lyrics to Yellow Submarine by following the link on the Speak Up page of the Tune Into English website, while The Song in the current issue of the magazine, on newsstands now, looks at Bette Davis Eyes, made famous by Kim Carnes.
The Karaoke section of the website now features almost 1,000 songs, including those mentioned in this newsletter. The number will continue to grow, so be sure to tell your students.
Thank you all for the positive feedback I have received for Team Up, the new course book for teachers of the Italian Scuola Superiore di Primo Grado. Published by ELI, this was written by Fergal Kavanagh, Catrin Morris and Claire Moore, and each volume contains four songs by Tune Into English. Further details can be found in the Teachers’ Area of the website.
Finally, thanks to the students of the Istituto Comprensivo, Prepezzano (SA) for the wonderful drawings they sent – you can see them by following the link on the Comments page (scroll down to 23rd January).
Best wishes,
Fergal Kavanagh
