December 2013 (2) – Nelson Mandela, 1918 – 2013

Dear Teacher,

The world was saddened by the passing of Nelson Mandela on Thursday. Tune Into English has published a worksheet for 46664 (That’s My Number), a remix created by Max & Andy, combining extracts from a speech given in London by Nelson Mandela on 21st October 2003, with a Toots & The Maytals reggae song.

46664 was Nelson Mandela’s prison number when he was incarcerated on Robbin Island, Cape Town for 18 years. It is also a global movement fighting against HIV/AIDS in Africa and around the world (www.46664.com). Music is a key element of the campaign.

This worksheet is ideal to introduce or conclude a lesson on Mandela or AIDS and is easily adaptable to lower levels of language learner.

“Thank you Nelson Mandela for your highest standard of commitment to Peace in our World. We are so lucky to have been on this planet with you.”

Yoko Ono (who lost her husband 33 years ago today).

Rest In Peace.
